The province of Quebec is urgently trying to offer a safe place for these women to stay, and La Maison de Mélanie wants to be the vehicle that helps make that possible.

La Maison de Mélanie, the only organization that offers a 24/7 crisis line, understands the need to respond to calls at any time of day or night. We have noticed a huge problem for victims who On average, about 75% of the people who contact the crisis line request to be relocated or mention an urgent need for accommodations. The vast majority of these callers are in imminent danger, are in need of safety, and aren’t aware of their rights. No specific accommodations exist for them; there’s nowhere that takes into account their specific needs. Some victims report that shelters for women who are victims of spousal abuse won’t accept them. Several sexual assault services exist, but none of them is able to offer accommodations. The resources that do exist aren’t known to the victims of sexual exploitation. La Maison de Mélanie wants to work in partnership with existing resources, complementary to them, and serve as a focal point that can help direct victims to the right resources for their specific needs.
