A bit of holiday magic for victims of sexual exploitation
Every year, the “Table de concertation sur les agressions à caractère sexuel de Montréal” estimates there are about 16,000 victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation in Canada . Most of them are women and children who have been violated, manipulated and forced into the sex trade, very often under false promises and illusions.
Quebec, with Montreal in particular, is an internationally recognized hub for human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Montreal’s attraction as a sex tourism destination is due in part to its diversity of “offered services”, a lower Canadian dollar, its proximity to the American border as well as the city’s numerous sports events and variety of festivals.
